Gold in the Deep Blue Seas.

August 20, 2009

In the discussion of adventure and excitement, the writer here wanted to talk about one aspect of looking for precious gold that is not discussed much and that would be the actual aspect of diving for gold. Yes everyone there are still ambitious enough people and who already love the seas to go and look for precious jewelry as well.  Now we have already discussed the pirate aspect of searching for gold but there is another aspect that is less dramatic then what is portrayed on film. Let’s explore this a little further. There are many divers like Ian Banks who have dived the gold coast off of New Guinea and have been noted for there bravery and love for the water. But do these Divers find scrap gold or any other gold for that manner?  Well surprisingly enough we have to go back to the famed example of the 49ers in California who where mining at that time.

It has been noted that some of the 49′ers would actually dive in water for gold; many of the specimens and items that they found were able to be exchanged as cash for gold in which many of them were able to make some what of a lucrative career out of it. Some of the dredging equipment that they had at the time would not allow for certain areas of the water to be dug up; but this did not deter the divers because they were 100% certain that there was gold at the bottom of those blue waters. So like any ambitious 49er would do they simply gathered their buckets and hopped right in the water looking for an opportunity to cash in what every precious material; usually gold that they could find. It is this spirit of adventure and slight danger that prompted this unnamed sport to continue.

Now, after all of these years have past and things have become a little more technical with the use of scuba gear and breathing machines, this quest for gold under the water is still continuing today.  If you have seen the film Fools Gold you can get a hint of this lifestyle in this hilarious comedy.  The next time you are at the ocean, any ocean for that matter, you never know if there is anyone meters or maybe even miles away under the water combing the floor for lost gold coins or anything shiny for that matter.
