“In late 2009, the U.S. Mint began selling a 2009 version of the 24 karat gold Buffalo gold coins. The designed stayed true to the design they have had since they were in circulation in 1913. When they first came out all those years ago, they were known as Indian Head Nickels or Buffalo Nickels because of their design. This design had the image of a buffalo on one side and a Native American man on the other side of the coin.”
Earlier this week, the U.S. mint started selling the 2009 version of its 24 karat gold Buffalo gold coins. Although they were made recently, the design of these current gold coins pretty much sticks to the standard design that Buffalo gold coins have has since 1913, when they were in circulation. Back then they were known as Buffalo Nickels or Indian Head Nickels because one side portrays a Native American man, while the other side depicts a Buffalo.
It has been said that the Native American man featured on one side of these gold coins was not based on one person, but three people, although the artist only gave confirmation for two of the man it is believed were used as inspiration. One man was a Cheyenne Chief and the other was a Chief from the Lakota Sioux.
As for the animal on this gold coin, it also was modeled after a living being. It is thought that the buffalo on the Buffalo gold coin was drawn to resemble an animal that was living in the New York City Zoo when the coins were first produced.
If you are a gold coin enthusiast who would like to spend more on your hobby, but do no think it is within your budget at the moment, why not sell gold? The cash for gold you get will allow you to buy the gold coins you want for your collection now. After all, many of us are seeing that we cannot just acquire endlessly. Sometimes we need to prune our possessions so that when we take on more things, we do not become overwhelmed. Perhaps there are some gold coins in your collection that you really do not value as much as you once did. Or, if you are unable to part with gold coins, you can sell old gold jewelry to a gold buyer to make room for more gold.
