The History of Gold

July 8, 2011

Gold has been a substance that has held constant throughout human history.  The first gold artifacts are found back from the 4th millennium BC, and the metal has shown up frequently in the annals of history.  Gold has featured in every major civilization from the Mesopotamians to the Canadians.  No matter what part of the world that you find yourself in or what part of history that you’re reading, gold will most definitely come up in the discourse.

Gold has been a major factor in the history of humankind.   Gold has been a symbol of the rich for hundreds of thousands of years, and crowns and scepters are traditionally made of this material.  When North America ex explored by the Europeans, this was in no small part due to the fact that gold was found on the continent.  In addition to this, gold rushes have been a frequent point of interest for entrepreneurial souls throughout history.   Gold rushes were particularly popular during the 18th century, with rushes occurring in the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and South Africa.

In addition to all of the metalworking and exploration that gold has inspired, how could one forget that it has also been one of the major forms of currency the world over?  The first gold coins are suspected to have come out of Lydia, a region in Turkey.  Since then, gold coins have been in active circulation.  Most recently, the gold Kugerrand in South Africa used to be the country’s form of currency – and this currency was entirely based on gold coins!

Gold has been a very important substance to many different peoples all throughout time.  Don’t forget that we here at Cash for Gold USA can buy your gold and give you cash in return – unfortunately, most of us no longer live in societies where gold can be used as legal tender, it helps to have that paper currency in hand.  Gold is worth just as much to us at Cash for Gold USA as it was back during the days of the gold rush – we’re always looking to buy as much gold as possible!  Contact us here at Cash for Gold USA and we’ll show you how easy and fun it can be to sell your unwanted, broken, or antique gold items for real cash!
